The Open Classroom strand within EDEN is focusing on distance education and new technologies in school level education and training. Main objectives are the mapping and the exchange of information about relevant European initiatives and resources, the transfer of ideas of distance and e-learning to the school sector.
EDEN's Sixth Open Classroom Conference aims at offering an opportunity to present, be informed about and join the European dialogue about how families, teachers, experts, authorities and societies at large are experiencing and handling the changes that are leading towards Real Learning in Virtual Worlds.

Besides selected papers for presentation in the parallel sessions, the following most interesting workshops will provide opportunity for experts to share their knowledge and experience in the field:
Game-based & Social Networking Experiences for Learning. The aim of this workshop is to stimulate critical inquiry into the possibilities that massive multi-user virtual environments (MUVEs) offer learning and teaching practice.
The Future of Schooling - the Open Classrooms of Tomorrow. In this workshop desirable and yet grounded visions for ICT-related transformations on the level of learning environments will be discussed with input from EENet members.
Developing Teachers for the 21C - A Swedish large scale investment in teacher education will be presented and discussed, coordinated by the Swedish Knowledge Foundation.
SPUTNIC - Seminars Promoting the Use of Technologies for Networking and International Collaboration. With the workshop the aim is to raise awareness about the beneficial impact of the (pedagogically sound) implementation of new educational technologies that enhance international networking and collaboration for an institution, its staff and its students.

There is a last chance to submit proposals by 6 September as the very latest date. Papers, project experiences, policy and practice cases and surveys dealing with one or more of the above-mentioned topics are welcome. Accepted presentations will be introduced in the three series of Parallel Sessions. For details on how to send your proposal, please consult the respective conference page. Authors will be notified by 7 September
The best papers submitted will be offered publication possibility in the European Journal of Open, Distance and E-learning (EURODL)

will include the Welcome Cocktail on 24 October, after the opening plenary at the conference venue, Stockholm Institute of Education. There will be a visit and reception at the famous Stockholm City Hall, the setting where the Nobel Prize Banquet is hosted every year, on the evening of 25 October (included in the registration fee).
