and A Level work. Take a Look at Dramatic

After many
months of agonising Encyclopaedia
Britannica has decided to offer its content free on the Internet.
The offer was so attractive that so many people visited their site
on the launch day that their server was overwhelmed and they had
to take a long hard long at the infrastructure supporting its delivery.
But it is back online now. This free availability is great news
for Drama teachers as this is an excellent one stop shop for all
that information you were looking for. So if you are stuck for information
or need some quick research on an issue this is a good starting
point. Also note that the UK version will become free soon, so look
out for Britannica UK.

With poetry
being a strong current preoccupation why not visit The
Internet Poetry Archive? Poems often offer just the right tone
for a lesson and can be a great starter. Alternatively, there may
be a song lyric you are searching for. Take a look at The
International Lyrics Server to find your favourite song lyrics!
People also often ask me for plays they can do for a specific group
of children at GCSE. Mark
Wheeler is a playwright who will write plays for specific purposes
and has a variety of material available. Check out his site!

If you have a web site that you use in your Drama teaching why not
add it here!We have also begun a collection of Drama

the Drama Educators
of Tasmania have written to me and I have decided to feature
their site. It is always useful to get another perspective and this
is an interesting site. In their introduction they write,' We foster
and encourage the use of drama and dramatic techniques as an educational
and learning area, across all levels of education. Our organisation
focuses on the teaching and learning of Drama and Theatre in Education.
We promote the value of Drama in Education and Professionalism in
all facets of Education. We offer- Professional Development; Resources
and support materials for teachers; Avenues for discussion and practice'.I
also decided to have two Featured Sites this month. How could I
let April pass by without Featuring Shakespeare's birthday. Take
a look at the Shakespeare
in Love 1999 site which is hosted by Actis Limited. For further

The Dorothy
Heathcote Archive hosted at Manchester Metropolitan University.

this project, 'This archive was originally constructed, organised
and indexed by Dr
Sandra Hesten as part of her PhD research. It contains over
2000 items - documentary, audio and video - pertaining to the work
of Dorothy Heathcote and her many students. Each item is catalogued
as an individual record in a computerised keyword index which is
fully searchable through this website'.

I have selected the National Year of Reading. I have chosen
this partly because I believe there should be a National Year of
Drama, but also because I believe the overlap between the Literacy
and Drama should be better understood. It also holds a link to the
very interesting Verbal
Arts Centre in Londonderry.
