"THE BOX"

AIM

 

To introduce the idea of decisions.

LESSON

  1. (T.I.R), as a guide of the local museum. He/she explains that this is a sacred box, found from a country far away. The teacher explains that in a moment the pupils’ (P.I.R) as historians will be able to ask questions to the explorer who found the box.
  2. (Hot-seating) (P.I.R) ask the teacher (T.I.R.) questions as to where the box was found. (Arrange the class so that they are seated in a circle.)
  3. (Pairs) The teacher puts the group into pairs. Devise a short scene in which we see how this particular box was found. (Teacher explains that the box is not to be opened yet.)
  4. (In Groups of 6) The teacher puts the class into groups of six, He/she explains that the box is about to be opened. Show a frozen picture to the reaction when the box is opened. (After each showing, the rest of the group will try and guess what lies within the box.)
  5. (Discussion) The teacher puts the group back into a circle where we have a whole class discussion about what we have found out from each group’s picture.
  6. (Performance) Devise a short scene that contains; the finding of the box, the frozen picture of the opening, and a final scene exploring the contents of the box.

PLENARY- Discussion of work done in this particular lesson. Promote questions on imagination.

EXTENSION/DEVELOPMENT- How did the box get there in the first place? Who is the owner of the box? (flashbacks)
