PGCE Drama Programme Information
The Programme Leader for the PGCE Drama in Education is . The course is a one year full-time programme which runs over 36 weeks. The programme is divided between University based studies at Trent Park and School Based studies. Students are required by the DfEE to spend two thirds of their time based in school.

Outline

Autumn Term

University Based Studies

There are three practical workshops, Practice of Drama in Education, Content of Drama in Education, Process of Drama in Education. There is also a series of General Professional Studies lectures, followed by a seminar, on a general classroom issue, for example, Equal Opportunities.

School Based Studies

Students complete an individual School Experience in a secondary school. This placement is for three days each week throughout the term usually commencing from week three of the programme.

Spring Term

University Based Studies

The Content of Drama in Education workshop continues as does the seminar on general classroom issues.

School Based Studies

Students complete an individual assessed School Experience in a different secondary school. This placement is for four days each week until half-term and then five days for the remainder of the term.

Summer Term

University Based Studies

Students follow a new workshop, the Technology of Drama in Education. This workshop looks at the creative implications for Drama in using video and computer resources.

School Based Studies

Again students spend four days each week in schools. The focus for this is research for a school based Special Study on a topic that students select for themselves.

Assessment

Students on the PGCE are continually assessed and required to pass the following:

  • a Reflective Journal
  • a Report on Monitoring & Assessment
  • an in depth Subject Study
  • 120 days of school experience.

Applications

To apply to join the PGCE Programme candidates need a degree in Drama and GCSE English and Mathematics at grade C or better.
