This site has been written to support the material contained in the Student Coursebook and also to reference further sites for exploration. The Internet is a constantly changing organism. Sites come and go. To help this site grow please send any feedback on this site to the editors Kenneth Taylor & Jos Leeder.

Why not sign our Guestbook and tell us what you think about the examination and the Coursebook.

  • The best source for play scripts is Samuel French Ltd. Theatre Bookshop in London at: 52, Fitzroy Street, London W1P 6JR (020 7387 9373).
  • There are other bookshops, including online stores like Amazon that also stock plays.
  • Mark Wheeller has written many scripts that would be suitable for GCE performance. You cann see these on his web site.
  • The Project Gutenberg Site at holds some plays that are no longer held in copyright. They cannot publish any texts still in copyright. This generally means that texts are taken from books published pre-1923. (It's more complicated than that, see their Copyright Page.)
  • The Methuen Student Edition series offer a useful introduction to selected play texts. Each edition offers a chronology of the playwright's life and work, an introduction giving the background to the play, a discussion of themes and characters, an outline of plot and structure, notes on individual words and phrases in the text, photographs from both stage and film productions, suggestions for further reading.
